GALLIPOLIS, Ohio – Two men have been arrested after what law enforcement is calling a “crime spree across Gallia County.”
Sheriff Matt Champlin said Lester Thompson of Gallipolis and Brett Curtis of Gallipolis were taken into custody by deputies and troopers from the Gallia-Meigs Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The arrests came after law enforcement officials were following up on a report that several individuals were observed allegedly stealing items from Reds Truck Center on Kerr Road.
According to the Gallia County Sheriff, further investigation determined that the alleged suspects traveled to the Reds Rolling Garage Facility and stole some other items. Shortly after that, Sheriff Champlin stated that they attempted to break into a garage in the Porter area and took some items from that residence also. Later that day, the suspects allegedly then entered a used tool shop in Porter and stole a generator and some other tools.
“We are pleased to have recovered the stolen items and were able to return them to their rightful owners,” said Sheriff Champlin. “In one of the cases, the owner had not even had a chance to notice that the items had been stolen. Officers were able to identify the items were stolen and we notified the owner, and boy was he shocked.“
Sheriff Champlin complemented the quick response of officers and tips from the community to solving the four theft offenses within hours of them being notified.
