GALLIPOLIS – Former Gallia Academy Middle School band/music teacher John Seals, 26, appeared before Gallia County Common Pleas Judge D. Dean Evans today and pleaded guilty to disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a fifth degree felony. Seals was indicted by the Gallia County Grand Jury in August of 2012.

Seals pleaded guilty to the charge and admitted to sending a picture of his “private area” to a 14 year old student via text.  According to Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Adkins, the charge is not on the list of charges that would require Seals to register as a sex offender. In addition, due to the charge being a felony of the fifth degree and the rules under HB 86, Seals cannot generally be sentenced to prison.

A pre-sentence investigation was ordered.  According to the plea agreement, Seals is expected to be sentenced to two years community control. Seals voluntarily relinquished his teaching license.
